The 2022 ZEPHYR RIDGE PRIMITIVO is our seventh bottling of 100% Primitivo in recent years. This variety is a clone of Zinfandel that was introduced into Italy from Croatia about the same time it was introduced into California as Zinfandel in the mid 1800’s. Thurston Wolfe was the first winery to plant this variety in Washington State in 1997 at the Zephyr Ridge Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills. Harvested in mid September at 26 Brix, it was fermented for 10 days in small open top fermenters. After pressing and ageing in new and seasoned American oak for 23 months, it was bottled in August 2023.
Big, bold and powerful, this wine compliments rich and spicy foods. Only 73 cases produced and released in November 2023.
