At Thurston Wolfe, we have been crafting Port-style wines for over 35 years—long before the 2005 international laws restricted the use of the term "Port." Because of this deep history, we are one of the few American wineries grandfathered into using this prestigious classification. While others must label theirs as "dessert wine," we continue the tradition we started decades ago, honoring the authentic methods of the Douro Valley.
Many people find typical dessert wines too heavy or "syrupy." We believe that is often the result of imbalnces in the wine. An exceptional Port should be a balance of power and elegance, not just sugar. By using Touriga Nacional—the most celebrated grape in Portugal—and arresting fermentation at exactly 9% residual sugar with high-proof spirits, we create a wine that is dense and velvety, yet remarkably clean on the finish.
Sourced from the Lonesome Spring Vineyard in the Yakima Valley and aged for 16 months in oak, this 2020 vintage is a sophisticated, structural wine designed for those who appreciate the art of traditional fortification.
